City Guide
Perched on a rugged volcanic ridge in the Javakheti highlands, Shaori Fortress is an enigmatic archaeological site built from enormous basalt blocks without mortar. Its distinctive stone structures reflect the ancient megalithic building traditions found across parts of southern Georgia.
Situated at approximately 2,700 metres above sea level, the fortress offers sweeping views across the surrounding plateau and nearby highland landscapes. Its original purpose is not fully established, making it an intriguing destination for travellers interested in ancient history and archaeology.
The remote location and exposed mountain terrain make Shaori a destination best suited to adventurous visitors who enjoy hiking and exploring lesser-known historical sites.
