Located in the heart of Old Batumi, Europe Square is one of the city's most vibrant and elegant public spaces. Surrounded by beautifully restored 19th-century buildings, the square reflects Batumi's unique blend of European architecture and Georgian culture. Its name symbolizes Georgia's long-standing cultural ties with Europe and the country's aspirations toward the European community.
At the center of the square stands the iconic Medea Statue, unveiled in 2007. The golden statue depicts the legendary Colchian princess holding the Golden Fleece, celebrating the ancient Kingdom of Colchis and the famous Greek myth of Jason and the Argonauts. Just a few steps away, visitors can admire Batumi's elegant Astronomical Clock, which displays not only the time but also astronomical information such as the positions of the sun, moon, zodiac signs, and planets. Throughout the year, Europe Square hosts concerts, cultural events, festivals, and one of Batumi's most popular Christmas celebrations.
