Hidden in the lush mountains of Adjara, Kintrishi Protected Areas are one of Georgia's best preserved natural treasures. Established in 1959, the protected area safeguards ancient Colchic forests, many of which have survived since the Tertiary Period, millions of years ago. Covering elevations from 300 to 2,500 meters above sea level, the park is home to remarkable biodiversity, including rare plant species, brown bears, deer, chamois, and numerous bird species.
Beyond its rich wildlife, Kintrishi offers scenic hiking and horseback riding trails leading to waterfalls, alpine lakes, medieval stone arch bridges, and historic landmarks such as the Khinotsminda Church ruins and St. George Monastery. Its peaceful atmosphere and untouched landscapes make it an ideal destination for travelers seeking an authentic nature experience away from the crowds.
Fun Fact: In 2021, Kintrishi became part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Colchic Rainforests and Wetlands", recognizing its globally important ancient forests and exceptional biodiversity.
