Uplistsikhe

Uplistsikhe is one of the oldest inhabited sites in the Caucasus, with a history stretching back to the Late Bronze Age. Carved directly into the rocky cliffs, the ancient settlement once served as an important spiritual and political center. Today, visitors can walk through its streets and chambers, see rock-cut temples, wine presses and cellars, and explore the famous tunnel leading towards the Mtkvari River.

Traveler Tip:

Wear comfortable shoes - the rocky paths can be uneven. Allow at least 1-2 hours to explore the site.
