City Guide
The Telavi Food Market (Telavi Bazaar) is one of the most authentic places in Kakheti where visitors can experience local Georgian food, culture, and daily life. Located in the center of Telavi, this traditional farmers’ market has been an important trading hub for the region for centuries and remains a lively meeting place for locals and travelers.
Walking through the market is a true sensory experience. Stalls are filled with colorful fresh fruits and vegetables, aromatic herbs and spices, and many traditional products that represent the famous Kakhetian cuisine. Visitors can taste a variety of local cheeses such as Akhmeta cheese, dambalkhacho, nadughi, and traditional matsoni (Georgian yogurt), all produced in nearby villages.
The market is also well known for its natural Georgian sweets. One of the highlights is churchkhela, a traditional sweet made from walnuts dipped in thick grape juice. You will also find fruit leathers (tklapi) made from plums, pears, apples, and other seasonal fruits.
