Located in the charming town of Lagodekhi, near the lush landscapes of the Lagodekhi Protected Areas, the Kazan Mother of God Church is a quiet yet historically rich landmark.
Built in the late 19th century in a Romanesque architectural style, the church reflects the cultural influences that shaped the region during that period. It is dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, one of the most revered symbols in Orthodox Christianity.
During the Soviet era, following the Sovietization of Georgia, the church- like many religious buildings - suffered significant damage. Its domes were dismantled, and the building itself was repurposed over time, serving alternately as a club and a storage facility.
Despite these hardships, the church has endured as a symbol of faith and history. Today, it stands as a reminder of the region’s complex past and offers visitors a peaceful place to reflect while exploring Lagodekhi.
