City Guide
Ujarma Fortress is an ancient fortress located on the banks of the Iori River, along the road connecting Tbilisi and Telavi through the Gombori Pass. The fortress dates back to the 3rd–4th centuries and played an important role during the reign of King Vakhtang Gorgasali, who is believed to have rebuilt and expanded it. Today, visitors can explore the atmospheric ruins of stone walls, towers, and the remains of an old church, all surrounded by forested hills and scenic landscapes. The site offers a glimpse into Georgia’s early medieval history and is a great stop for travelers heading to Kakheti.
