In the heart of Stepantsminda, Mokheuri Teka keeps the traditional craft of Georgian felt-making alive. Founded in 2009 by Tamar Sujashvili, the gallery-studio works mainly with wool and creates handmade felt pieces inspired by the landscapes and traditions of the Caucasus.
The process is highly hands-on, beginning with preparing the wool and turning it into felt using traditional techniques. The studio mainly uses local wool, while also working with wool from different sheep breeds and Georgian silk. Natural dyes, including onion skins, turmeric and cochineal, are used to create rich, earthy colours.
Visitors can browse handmade pieces and, when workshops or demonstrations are available, get a closer look at how the craft is made. The studio has also welcomed both local and international visitors interested in learning the technique themselves.
