Mount Kazbek

At approximately 5,054 metres, Mount Kazbek dominates the skyline around Stepantsminda. Its snow-covered summit, volcanic slopes and dramatic presence have made it one of the most recognizable mountains in Georgia.

For most visitors, Kazbek is best experienced from the viewpoints around Stepantsminda and Gergeti. Experienced mountaineers, however, can attempt the summit with the necessary equipment, preparation and guides.

Fun Fact:

According to Georgian mythology, the Caucasus mountains are connected with the story of Amirani, a legendary hero often compared with Prometheus.
