Kelitsadi Lake

Kelitsadi Lake sits high in the Keli Highlands at 3,081 metres above sea level, making it one of the more remote natural destinations around Kazbegi. The lake has a distinctive crescent shape and lies beneath Sherkhota Peak, whose volcanic slopes are dotted with red rocks.

Getting there is an adventure in itself. The lake can only be reached on foot, with hiking routes leading from Truso Valley across the Khorisari Plateau and over the challenging 3,550-metre Khorisari Pass.

Fun Fact:

In summer, particularly around August and September, the lake can be surprisingly warm and clear enough for swimming — although it remains frozen for much of the year.

Multi-day trekking and high-altitude camping.

Important:

Because of the proximity to the de-facto boundary with the occupied Tskhinvali/South Ossetia region, travellers should follow local guidance and carry identification.
