Standing on Batumi Boulevard beside the Black Sea, the Ali & Nino Statue is one of Georgia's most iconic landmarks. Created by acclaimed Georgian sculptor Tamar Kvesitadze and unveiled in 2010, the 8-meter-high kinetic sculpture tells the tragic love story of Ali, an Azerbaijani Muslim, and Nino, a Georgian Christian, inspired by the celebrated 1937 novel Ali and Nino by Kurban Said.
Every 10 minutes, the two transparent steel figures slowly move toward one another, merge into a single form, and then pass through each other before separating again. This mesmerizing choreography symbolizes love that transcends borders, cultures, and religions, while also reflecting the pain of separation. Set against the backdrop of the Black Sea, the sculpture has become one of Batumi's most photographed attractions and a powerful symbol of peace and unity.
Fun Fact: Although the sculpture is widely known as "Ali & Nino," its original title is "Man and Woman." It has become one of Batumi's defining symbols and is often called the "Statue of Love."
