Overlooking the town of Sachkhere, Modinakhe Fortress is one of Imereti's most picturesque medieval fortresses. Built during the 18th century by the nobleman Papuna Tsereteli, the fortress occupies a strategic limestone ridge approximately 700 meters above sea level.
Visitors can explore the impressive stone walls while enjoying sweeping views across the surrounding mountains and the Kvirila River Valley. Archaeological discoveries have revealed that the site was inhabited long before the fortress was built, with evidence of settlements dating back to the Bronze Age and Early Antiquity.
According to local legend, the fortress takes its name from the Georgian phrase meaning "Come and see," said by its builder after completing the impressive stronghold and inviting others to admire his work.
