Leonidze’s home, in which the house museum was opened in 1968, is located in the beautiful village of Patardzeuli in Kakheti. The museum building itself has been granted the status of an immovable monument of cultural heritage.
Overall, 1529 exhibits are stored in the museum including the poet's works, memorial items, ethnographic materials, and documents. His handwritten memoirs are kept on faded pages, depicting Leonidze as a great humanist.
In addition to his creative activities, Leonidze was also a researcher of Georgian literature, with a keen interest in the works of his predecessors. In the 1930s, on Leonidze's initiative, the Writers' Museum was founded on Mtatsminda, which was later transformed into the State Literary Museum of Georgia.
Through the initiative and efforts of the writer, Ilia Chavchavadze Museum was also opened in Saguramo, and the House Museum of Lesia Ukrainka was opened in Surami.
From Leonidze's works, the book "Natvris Khe" (“Wish Tree”) gained special popularity. Based on this book, director Tengiz Abuladze made a film that won many international awards.
Visiting the museum allows one to learn about the life and works of the great Georgian poet of the 20th century, and to see and touch the spiritual treasure of the Georgian people.
Finally, from the museum, wonderful views are to be relished of the famous wine-making region.
