Ikalto Academy is a medieval educational complex located near Telavi. Founded in the 12th century by the Georgian monk Arsen Ikaltoeli, it served as a major center for theology, philosophy, and sciences in medieval Georgia. Students at Ikalto Academy studied a wide range of subjects, including literature, medicine, theology, and viticulture.
The ruins today include the main academy building, churches, and ancient walls, giving visitors a glimpse into Georgia’s rich intellectual and cultural history. The site also offers panoramic views of the surrounding Kakheti landscape, including vineyards and rolling hills.
